Custom Fields

An administrator can add a custom field to any module listed in the Base Tables shown below.

Base Tables:

First, custom fields must be added within the Administration tab, System Tables menu item, and Custom Fields record. Within this module, you can decide whether the custom field should be added to all projects as well as other usage features. If you choose to not include the custom field in all projects, then you will need to go to the Project tab, Project Tables menu item for Project Custom Fields for the individual projects that require these custom fields.

To add a Custom Field:

• Select the Administration tab, System Tables menu item, then select Custom Fields and select the Base Table, such as Document
• Click the Add New button, which opens the Custom Field module
• Enter the required information on that module and click Save for additional tabs to become available. The Field Properties and Report Properties tabs are available under any of the base tables. The Usage Filters tab is only available for the Contact, Document, Institution, or ProjectEvent base tables. Field Properties allows you to add the custom fields to all projects, make the field required, provide a tool tip to users, etc. The Report Properties tab allows you to set defaults if the custom field should appear in a report. Usage Filters allow you to select specific records that will carry the custom field.
• Click Save again to return to this module.
• If you did not click the Add to all Projects on the Field Properties tab, then you will need to go to the Project tab, Project Tables menu item for Project Custom Fields to add the custom field to that project.
